Before seminary, I worked in residential renovation and construction and did landscaping on the side.
What influenced your decision to apply for seminary entrance?
The greatest influences that led me to seminary were a continual call from God to investigate the call to the priesthood, going to Mass daily through my years in college, frequently visiting a chapel for silent Eucharistic adoration, and serving Mass.
Why do you want to be a priest?
I want to become a priest to glorify God, to bring the sacraments to his people, to serve the Church and sanctify the world, and by God’s grace, to become holy through obedient service and love.
What are your favourite pastimes?
I enjoy doing house renovations, reading, model railroading, backpacking, canoeing, and listening to music, among many other things.
What is your favourite quote?
“Come to me, all you who labour and are weary, and I will give you rest.” Mt. 11:28
Who is your favourite Saint and why?
It’s hard to pick one. Besides Our Lady, St. Therese of Lisieux is one of my favourites. She has played a significant role in my life and vocation story. I like her spirituality of silent and hidden prayer, service, and love, and also her lively concern for all people, both during her life and now from heaven.
What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?
Get in touch with your diocese’s vocations director – we can’t discern this vocation alone. Besides this, go to Mass as often as you’re able, spend time in silent adoration before the Eucharist, and stay close to Mary. Don’t be daunted by the process of discernment and seminary - focus on what God wants from you in the present moment, not where you want to be in a few years. Trust in God. He doesn’t make mistakes, and he will show you where you need to be.
