Theology III - Elgin Roman Catholic Family of Parishes
What did you do prior to entering the seminary?
Prior to entering school, I was working as an intern public health inspector. I would inspect restaurants, hair salons, tattoo shops, swimming pools and investigate food outbreaks. I was in post-secondary school for six years prior to seminary, obtaining a bachelors in Kinesiology and Public Health.
What influenced your decision to apply for seminary entrance?
What influenced my decision to apply for seminary was the many signs God put in front of me to discern priesthood at St. Peter’s Seminary. God had put on my heart a calling to priesthood when I was younger, however I needed assurance from him that this was where he wanted me to go. One particular sign was playing tennis with a seminarian. It made me think, that I did not have to give up my favourite sport (tennis) if I were to become a seminarian. I can still continue to enjoy and share with others my God given gifts.
Why do you desire to be a priest?
I like sharing about Jesus to all people I meet and being among the people of the parish. If God designed me to be a priest, I pray I can follow his will in doing that.
What are your favourite pastimes?
In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis, running, and doing resistance training. I love being outdoors and going on long runs. I like also hanging out with my friends, going on trips and pilgrimages with them too.
What is your favourite quote?
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” - Jeremiah 29:11
Who is your favourite Saint and why?
My favourite saint is Sister Faustina because I have devotion to Jesus of Divine Mercy. She is the saint that had revelations of Jesus and wrote about the mercy Jesus can pour out on you.
What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?
I would say, continue to be open to seminary and priesthood, even if it is something that you do not desire. Talk to priests, seminarians about it. Having a spiritual director is the best thing you could do, as they will help you in discerning the direction the Lord is calling you to.
